TOUR DIARY: THE SHIVER: 'Dark Matters' Tour

In questo speciale vi raccontiamo in esclusiva il diario di bordo scritto appositamente da Federica 'Faith' Sciamanna, voce e co-leader dell'alternative rock band THE SHIVER, che ci porterà all'interno delle date europee di supporto ai finlandesi THE RASMUS, nell'ambito del tour di promozione del loro ultimo album 'Dark Matters', pubblicato ad ottobre 2017 per Playground Music Scandinavia. Buon viaggio assieme a THE SHIVER!!!

[In this special post, we tell you - in exclusive - the tour diary appositely written by Federica 'Faith' Sciamanna, vocalist and co-leader of the alternative rock band THE SHIVER, that will brings us within the European Tour, supporting for the Finnish THE RASMUS, inside the promotional tour of their latest album 'Dark Matters', released at October 2017 for the label Playground Music Scandinavia. Puntata 5 - Thursday October 11, h 8:19 pm  - Dopo un day off rilassante, si ritorna alla realtà parallela del tour con un paio di aiuti in più: Sara ci ha raggiunti a Salisburgo, Andrea invece ci darà una mano per le date di Treviso e Milano. [After a relaxing day-off, we back to the parallel reality of the tour with a twice more good helps: Sara reached us in Salzburg; instead Andrea will give us an help for the shows of Treviso and Milan]

Arriviamo al New Age Club e già troviamo, come al solito, la schiera dei superfan che attendono sul cancello. I ragazzi degli Overlaps sono di queste parti e ci hanno messo parecchio in guardia sulla scomodità del locale: palco piccolissimo e pressing rooms inesistenti, quindi siamo un pò preoccupati. Vertigo, l’agenzia che si occupa di queste date, è già presente sul posto, ma devo dire che né qui né a Milano ci viene data troppa attenzione. In compenso però, i tecnici del locale sono FENOMENALI! Veramente, 10 e lode. Attrezzature ottime, fonici preparatissimi e molto veloci, insomma, ci tranquillizziamo subito. Il soundcheck scorre liscio come l’olio, e finalmente possiamo rilassarci per quanto riguarda la qualità dell’audio e concentrarci sul nostro live. [We arrive to New Age Club, and we find yet, usually, the superfans crowd attending on the gate. Overlaps band are of this part of Italy, and they cautioned us about the uncomfortable venue: very small stage, inexistant press rooms, so we are a little worried. Vertigo, that is the agency that works about these shows, is already present, but I have to say that neither here, nor in Milan, gaves us so many attention. In return, the venue employeers are PHENOMENAL! Really, quote 10 and praise. Very good facilities, highly trained and very fast sound-engineers; so, we just take it easy. The soundcheck is smooth like oil, and finally we can relax about audio quality, focusing about our show.]

Diciamo la verità, nessuno di noi si aspettava una cosa simile, ma quando saliamo sul palco l’accoglienza della folla è spettacolare. Il calore delle prime file è forte e alimenta la nostra voglia di fare un ottimo show. Personalmente, quando il pubblico è così coinvolto, riesco a dare una chiave molto più colloquiale al live, e mi sento molto vicina agli ascoltatori. é una sensazione bellissima, inaspettata, inebriante.  Anche qui, arrivano tanti complimenti dalla gente, a fine concerto, e tutti avrebbero voluto un live più lungo. Questa richiesta ci arriva sempre più di frequente durante questo tour, ma nonostante ci piacerebbe da morire suonare per almeno 45 minuti e poter strutturare il nostro vero live, non si può. Sarà il caso di tornare al più presto in queste città per fare dei concerti completi magari in locali più modesti! [We have to say the truth: no one of us could wait a similar thing, but when we go up to the stage the audience is spectacular. The animation of the front rows is strong and feeds us our desire to make an awesome show. Personally, when the audience is so involved, I manage to give a very talk-key to the show, and I feel so close to the audience and the listeners. It’s a wonderful, unexpected and intoxicant sensation. Also here, many good feedbacks arrive us by the people, at the end of the show, and everybody would have liked a more long show. This request comes us always more often during this tour, but despite this and the wish to play 45 minutes at least, in order to build our true show, we can’t. We must come back in these towns early, to make some complete shows, maybe in more small venues!]

Un’altra cosa che mi piace da morire, visto che noi veniamo da un ambito molto VERO, è quando i locali evitano di mettere le transenne e ci troviamo, come qui al New Age, a suonare proprio a contatto col pubblico. [Another thing that I like very much, since that we come from a very TRUE context, is when the venues avoid to put the hurdles and we find, like here at New Age, to play just very close to the crowd.]

Dopo lo show, siamo felici come bambini, ed una bellissima sorpresa è stata trovare gli amici Sinheresy lì al club ad ascoltarci! Non ci vedevamo dal tour con Tarja, Sono stati nostri compagni d’avventura e con loro si è creato un bel rapporto di stima reciproca. I ragazzi non sapevano che sono citati nel mio libro che parla proprio di quel tour! Lo vedono allo stand, e ne prendono una copia… spero che gli piaccia!! [After the show, we are happy like kids, and a wonderful surprise is been to find our freinds Sinheresy at the club to listen us! We didn’t see us since the tour with Tarja, they are been our trip mates and with them it’s been created a good relationship, made of mutual respect. The guys didn’t know that are mentioned in my book that talks about there tour! They see it at the merch stand, and they bring a copy… I hope it likes them!!]

La serata finisce abbastanza tardi, rispetto agli standard delle serate precedenti, e tutti ce ne andiamo a dormire qualche ora. L’indomani mattina si parte presto per Milano. Sono solo 300km ma c’è traffico e ci mettiamo un pò per arrivare all’Alcatraz. [The night ends late enough, compared to the standards of the previous nights, and everybody go to sleep some hour. The morning after we start early to Milan. They are only 300 km, but there’s some traffic, and we spend enough time to come to Alcatraz.]

Qualche mese fa ero qui ad ascoltare Death From Above + At The Drive In, e non nascondo che era stata una missione in avanscoperta per ripassare come era strutturato quel bestione di Club. In Italia abbiamo l’abilità di creare problemi inesistenti e usarli come scusa per causare problemi, e così, all’entrata quella sera, gli spettatori oltre al biglietto erano costretti a lasciare le proprie cose al guardaroba per la modica cifra di 5€. Sinceramente, tutto può essere, ma se non lo segnali nell’evento vuol dire che ci stai marciando. Ad ogni modo, stavolta sono qua a suonare, e la crew di carico e scarico è gentilissima ed efficace.  Anche qui, ci accorgiamo subito che i fonici sono davvero eccezionali. Mi fanno la cassa spia più nitida della storia, un miracolo. Dopo il soundcheck ce ne andiamo nei camerini. In cucina ci sono mille cose buone e vegan, un applauso alle cuoche, peccato che ci siano anche varie persone - personale della venue? - che staziona in cucina parlando delle proprie avventure sessuali a voce alta, non degnando neanche di un saluto i musicisti che entrano. Italy NUMBER UAN per l’educazione. Anche qui, siamo lasciati abbastanza a noi stessi con 6 birre in croce in camerino e qualche problema per gli amici della stampa che avevamo invitato. [Some months ago, I was here to listen Death From Above and At The Drive In, and I don’t hide that’s been a mission, in order to revise how was structured this big venue. In Italy we have the skill to create inexistent problems, and to use it like apologize to make some problems, and so, at the entry door there night, the audience, besides the ticket, was forced to leave own objects at the wardrobe, for the amount of €5. Sincerely, everything maybe, but if you don’t report in the event, it signifies that you take advantage on this. Anyway, this time I’m here to play, and the load-in and load-out crew is so gentle and preparated. Also here, we notice fastly that the sound engineers are unbelievable. They make me the most clean monitor of the history, a miracle. After the soundcheck, we go to the dressing room. In the kitchen there are thousands of tasty foods (also vegan), horns up for the chefs; unfortunately, there are some people – venue crew? – that are stationed in the kitchen, talking loudly about own sexual performances, and not making greetings to the musicians coming in. Education in Italy: NUMBER UAN. Also here, we are left to ourselves with only six beers in the dressing room, and some problems to the press friends that we are invited.]

Per fortuna, con Andrea, me ne vado a fare un giro per negozi e torno con un paio di nuovi vestiti… del resto, nella capitale della moda bisogna essere eleganti! [Luckily, with Andrea, I make a footstep around clothes shops, and I back with a twice of new outfits… How it says? In the city of style, we need to be fashioned!]

Andrea mi fa anche da roadie sul palco e finalmente, posso stare tranquilla e salire on stage nel momento più indicato: durante l’intro. [Andrea is my roadie on stage, and finally I can be quiet and go up on stage in the right moment: during the intro.]

Appena si aprono le luci e Finch batte i colpi d’inizio, mi volto verso il pubblico e mi trovo lì una massa di persone super presissime, che seguono ogni nota, ogni movimento con molta attenzione. L’emozione è davvero tanta, anche dopo tutti questi anni che suono live. L’importanza della venue si fa sentire e penso a tutti i vari amici che sono presenti nella folla. Penso anche agli altri, che avrebbero voluto esserci e mi hanno scritto mille messaggi per dire quanto sono contenti per questo bellissimo obiettivo raggiunto!!! Dopo i live di Treviso e di Milano, in tantissimi ci hanno scritto, mandato foto, si sono aggiunti alla lista dei nuovi fan. Sto cominciando a prenderci gusto. E comunque, grazie Italia per averci fatto sentire a casa. Un grazie particolare ad Elisa, super fotografa live degli Shiver da anni, Ale e soprattutto Raffaele Pietro Pisani per il supporto! [When the lights burn, and Finch hits on the drums at start, I turn round to the crowd and I find a large amount of people so interested, that follow every note, every movement with much attention. The emotion is really big, also after all these years that I play live. The importance of the venue is heavy, and my mind is directed to the various friends that are present into the crowd. I think also to the others, that would be here and that wrote me a ton of messages to say me how are so happy for this wonderful goal achieved!!! After the shows of Treviso and Milan, many many people wrote us, sent pics, and added to the new fans list. I’m beginning to take taste. And anyway, thanks Italy to makes us feel home. Special thanks to Elisa, our super photo-reporter of the Shiver along many years, Ale and especially Raffaele Pisani for the support!]

Dopo il live, cerchiamo del cibo nei dintorni del locale, e poi via a dormire qualche ora. Quando esco dalla venue dalla schiera dei fan in attesa dei The Rasmus partono degli applausi ed una ragazza mi grida: “Sei stata bravissima!”.. ecco in quel momento no so che dire per mostrarle la mia gioia e gratitudine. [After the show, we search some food in the neighbourhood of the venue, and then go to sleep. When I exit from the venue, from the side of fans attending for The Rasmus start some applauses, and a girl shouts me: “You’re been awesome!”… Well, in there moment I don’t know what to say to shows her my gratitude and my happiness.]

Il giorno seguente siamo in Svizzera, nella meravigliosa città di Solothurn. il locale è lo storico Kofmehl, dove siamo già stati. [The day after, we are in Switzerland, in the wonderful town of Solothurn. The venue is the historical Kofmehl, where we have already been.]

La cosa più bella è il fatto che per ogni band a crew del locale mette nel camerino principale delle foto stampate ed incorniciate, ed oltre ai The Rasmus ci siamo anche noi :) [The most beautiful thing is that, for each band, the crew of the venue puts in the main dressing room some pics printed and framed, and besides The Rasmus, we are there too :) ]

Il palco è piccolino e l’acustica pessima, i fonici ci aiutano come possono ma non credo siano molto preparati, hanno un pò di problemi a cablare tutto l’impianto e a gestire la strumentazione. Ancora appagati dalle sere precedenti, noi comunque andiamo sul palco e facciamo del nostro meglio, ed il pubblico sembra gradire. All’uscita della folla molti si fermano per chiedere informazioni sulla band ed una giovane mamma metal ci chiede se siamo già famosi in Italia. Purtroppo tutti fumano - svizzeri che problemi avete?? - e dall’entrata si spande nel corridoio un puzzo bestiale di sigarette, da quel momento mi parte una crisi allergica che dura anche oggi. Il fumo fa davvero male e le sigarette sono merda che va direttamente nei polmoni, droga autorizzata dallo stato, QUIT SMOKING PLEASE, vogliate bene a voi stessi! [The stage is so small, and the sound is awful; the sound engineers help us the best possible, but I don’t think they are so preparated; they are a lot of problems to wire all the system, and to manage the backline. Still satisfied to the previous nights, however we go to the stage to make our best, and the audience seems to like. At the exit of the crowd, a lot of people stop to ask some infos about the band, and a young metal mom asks us if we are already famous in Italy. Unfortunately, everybody smoke – Swiss, what problems have you?? – and from the entry, a beastly bad smell of cigarettes enlarges into all the corridor; in there moment starts me an allergic crisis that lasts until today. The smoke breaks our lungs, cigarettes are shit that directly goes to the respiratory system, it’s drugs authorized by the Government, QUIT SMOKING PLEASE, love yourselves!]

Nel backstage intanto è scattata una piccola festa, innescata dalla stupenda torta fatta a mano da Natalia, la ragazza greca che si occupa della produzione dei live al Kofmehl. [Into the backstage, meantime, it started a little party, burned from a wonderful cake made by Natalia, the Greek girl that occupies of the live production at Kofmehl.]

I ragazzi dei The Rasmus sembrano contenti, tutto sta andando molto bene. Facciamo un pò di chiacchiere con Pauli ed Aki, sono proprio delle persone piacevoli e tranquille, nonostante gli anni nello showbusinnes hanno la testa ben salda sulle spalle ed è un piacere stare in loro compagnia. [The Rasmus guys seem happy, everything is gonna be alright. We talk a few with Pauli and Aki, they are just sweet and good persons; despite many years into the show-business, they have the firm head on the shoulders, and it’s a pleasure to stay with them.]

Dopo la notte di viaggio, oggi siamo a Lione, e ci riposiamo durante questo day off. Qui fa caldo e sul fiume c’è tanto movimento, e tantissimi che fanno windsurf. Tra chiamate di lavoro e jogging, siamo pronti per domani! [After the night trip, today we are at Lyon, and we rest during this day-off. Here it’s hot, and on the river there’s a lot of movement; many people make windsurf. Between job calls and jogging, we are ready for tomorrow!]
